GTA4 is sweet!

I was one of those nerds that waited in line last night to get my hands on GTA4 asap. Luckily I pre-ordered so I didn’t have to wait in the 500m long line, and got to jump to 3rd in line. Poor buddy had to wait in line and listen to the “tards” as he called them, talk about their black market arms dealings and stuff.

Anyway, I’ll probably be playing quite a bit so feel free to hit me up on Xbox Live and we can give the multi player a rip!

Big Brother 9: Adam Wins, James the Favourite!

TV 1 Comment »

AdamWell congratulations to the one that I didn’t pick to win. His googley eyes and non stop trash talk put me off, but low and behold he was voted the winner. If I was there I would have voted Ryan, but when it really comes down to it, Adam played the game the best and deserved to win.

Also congratulations to James who was voted America’s favorite juror! If I was somehow able to get through the flash on my iPhone I would have cast my vote for him as well. He battled hard, and stuck around way longer than anyone thought or wanted. Good job to both of you, bigger pat on the back to James for being the ultimate favorite.

GTA4: Niko Bellic Video

Niko Bellic

“During the war, I did some bad things, and bad things happened to us.”

“This pays, and I’m good at it.”

Rockstar released a new Niko Bellic video for Grand Theft Auto 4 this morning. Niko looks like he is going to be the most interesting main character to date… man only a couple more days!

Edit (11:09am): IGN also added a video review. Definitely worth checking out as there is some awesome in game footage.

American Idol: Carly Smithson Booted

Music, TV No Comments »

Carly SmithsonOk I admit it, the girlfriend and I are huge fans of American Idol. I never thought that I’d get into a show like this because I’ve always had the “if there isn’t guitar, I’m not listening” mentality, but this season I’ve started watching and now I’m hooked.

Anyway the big news from last night is that Carly Smithson got the boot. After watching the Tuesday night performances I’d say that she was hardly the worst one of the group. While Brooke White is still my favorite, she was hands down the worst and many thought for sure that she would get the boot last night.

Judges guessed that good looks and popularity kept certain people alive this week, and caused Carly and Syesha to end up in the bottom two. Syesha had hands down the best performance on Tuesday night, but the voters placed her in the bottom two. How she got there is still beyond me, but I don’t vote so I guess I can’t complain that much.

Till next week…

I’ve got a buddy heading off to Japan in May for 2 weeks, and he asked me to put together a list of places that I think he should check out. Of course there are hundreds of places that I’d like to recommend, but instead I’ll just give him a few that will definitely keep him busy for two weeks, and also share them with you!

NHL: Stanley Cup Round 2 Preview

Sports No Comments »

With round 1 of the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs in the books its time for a preview of what to expect looking forward. I’ll start off with the western conference.

Red WingsDetroit Red Wings vs. Colorado Avalanche

As their round one series with the Nashville Predators went on I was starting to wonder if they would once again fall victim to their inability to close out a series. Turns out they turned things around and managed to take out the Preds with a 4-2 series win. Colorado also won their series with the Minnesota Wild 4-2, and were successful in removing the most boring team from the playoffs. The Wings / Avalanche match up will be a good test for Colorado, though I predict the Wings to take this one 4-1.

SharksSan Jose Sharks vs. Dallas Stars

Oh man is this going to be a good series. Both teams are coming from tough first round match ups, and are eager to get things started against fresh teams. Neither team can really be considered fresh though as they both came from the same division, and are both probably licking their wounds from the Sharks’ 7 game series with the Calgary Flames, and the Stars’ 6 game series with the defending champion Anaheim Ducks. I’m going to give the edge to the Sharks in this one as they played far better than their three first round losses would suggest. The Stars do not have the goaltending that the Flames did, but I still think they will be able to keep things interesting. Once again a 7 game series for the Sharks with them taking it 4-3.

RangersPittsburgh Penguins vs. New York Rangers

The Penguins were accused of some trickery at the end of the regular season by “deliberately” loosing their last game so that they would get the Senators in the first round. If it was deliberate it definitely paid off as the Pens destroyed the Sens 4-0 and cruised into the second round. The Rangers faced the New Jersey Devils in the first round and continued their dominance of them by taking the series 4-1. There was speculation that the Rangers weren’t good enough to do anything in the post season, but critics have been silenced as they proved they have both scoring and goaltending that can take things to the next level in the playoffs. Keeping Sid the Kid and his buddies down will be the toughest challenge in round 2, but I see the Rangers taking this one 4-3.

CanadiensMontreal Canadiens vs. Philadelphia Flyers

The Canadians struggled a little with Boston in their first round match up, taking it all the way to game 7 before moving on, but things will change in the second round. The Flyers just squeked by the Captials in their first round series, but have no chance against the Habs in the second round. The Canadiens were 4-0 against the Flyers in the regular season, and things aren’t about to change. Canadiens take it 4-1.

Viral Bloggery?

sick computerSo after checking my visitor logs for the day I noticed one from ScatteredGenius.com, where the writer accuses me of being a viral blogger. What in the world is that? Well, the writer says he is a self proclaimed master of the internet, so take hold and lets be educated on viral bloggery:

My hypothesis as an Internet Scientist is that this person is in fact a viral marketing person seeding blogs that are posting about GTA4 with comments that link back to that blog. In addition to this, people searching for random things like Montreal Hockey Riots will come to this stub of a blog and see this post about GTA4, and effectively have their awareness increased. It also has the added effect of just generally increasing search engine awareness.

Very interesting way to look at things. I don’t know what to think of this at first… maybe I’m a genius and didn’t know it because I laid a link on a blog post that I found interesting? Or maybe I’m just a GTA4 fan that found someone bored enough to write about me? Either way its kind of entertaining.

As for the comments about me being a marketing company or someone hired to blog, both are false. I’m an individual that is just as bored as you, that wanted to get back into the swing of things when it came to blogging. This “stub” of a blog as you call it wont be that short for long… I’ve been blogging since 1999 way before wordpress or any of the other blogging applications came out, so I’ll just continue on with my random posting ways.

Montreal Hockey Riots

Sports No Comments »

Police CarWhy is it that Canadian cities keep trying to outdo eachother when it comes to playoff celebrations? From the red mile in Calgary and the Blue Mile in Edmonton, to the “Red and Blue” Mile in Montreal, things are getting way out of hand.

I don’t know if it was the Montreal police being unprepared, or if last nights police car burnings and riots were simply a result of too much Molson Canadian being served at the Bell Centre, but whatever it is, things have to change.

If we look back at the most recent hockey celebrations that took place north of the border we can learn a few things. Edmonton Police took a soft approach at first, but when they realized that the crowds were getting out of control, they went heavy handed and in turn eliminated any of the fires and general destruction that was present in earlier rounds.

There were complaints that the police were doing too much, but once people started to realize that the blue mile was once again a safe place for true hockey fans to celebrate.

People can say that Montrealers or Montrealites, whatever they are, may be the truest of hockey fans, but from the demonstrations in Edmonton a few years back, its safe to say that 90% of the trouble makers were not hockey fans at all. They were just caught up in the mob mentality and used the playoffs as an excuse to wreak havoc. Hopefully fans and police in Montreal take note, and we see peaceful celebrations from here on.

PS: Here is a youtube video of some of the mayhem from last night:

George St. Pierre Rules in Montreal

Sports 1 Comment »

George St. PierreCongratulations to George St. Pierre for his crushing victory over Matt Serra last night in Montreal at UFC 83!

Months in the waiting, this welterweight championship bought was nothing less than spectacular. I have to admit that I’m a big St. Pierre fan, but even if I was a Serra fan I’d have to say that the demonstration that was put on in the octagon by the Montreal born St. Pierre was nothing less than outstanding.

When the fight was called at the end of the second round my initial impression was that of shock that the ref cut this beautiful display short, but then after watching the replays of the relentless knees that a defenseless Serra was taking to the ribs, I agreed that the fight had to be stopped, and cheered as GSP grabbed a hold of the belt.

In a post fight interview GSP stated that he knew it would have been tough for Serra to come into Montreal, so he stated that he would return the favor and have a rematch in New York if Serra and the rest of the UFC league desired. All class… what a beauty!

Grand Theft Auto 4

GTA4I can still remember playing one of the original Grand Theft Auto games on my playstation, much to the envy of a Japanese friend who was miffed that this game wasn’t being released over in Japan. Now we fast forward almost a decade and Rockstar will unleash GTA4.

The summer of 2005 was spent blowing up GTA San Andreas, and I assume that the summer of ‘08 will be spent similarly, except this time in high definition and on a much larger scale.

The game itself is expected to be huge, but the online multiplayer will make it even larger with something like 10+ multiplayer game modes… oh man I hope that Xbox Live has its crap together and makes April 29th and beyond a smooth experience for the millions of gamers that will pick this game up on day one!
